What's been accepted,
what's coming soon, what Fiona's working on next, plus
any other new developments and snippets of information.
Read it here first! 2009 2 July Fiona's latest flash piece, a modern parable on the subject of bricks and mortar in only 150 words, is appearing in the latest issue (#42) of Mslexia, a highly regarded British magazine of women's writing. The magazine is available to buy via subscription, or on a single issue 'try before you buy' offer, or at branches of some bookstores. You can find all the details, including a full listof stockists, on the magazine's 'subscribe' page. 1 July The Pygmy Giant have published Lovers' Lane, a noir flash set in a grotty town-centre car park and describing the downside of an affair. The story was inspired by an actual event in Fiona's life - the car park, not the affair! 25 June Concrete Jungle has just appeared on the Ink Sweat & Tears website. Pop along now if you want to read Fiona's surrealist style poetic prose piece inspired by the gardens of Las Posas. The work was inspired by an event in the life of Edward James, a wealthy Englishman who moved to Mexico in the early 20th century and created the gardens from virgin jungle. 29 May QueeredFiction, a publisher producing electronic and print anthologies of gltb fiction, have accepted The Visitor for the upcoming sf anthology Queer Dimensions. The story, a gay time-travel themed romance, revolves around one man's search for the lover he left behind in his distant past. More details coming soon. 17 May Fiona's flash fic Fish Out of Water is now available to read, free of charge, at British online journal The Pygmy Giant. The story, a darkly humorous tale of a blind date, was written on a writing course, for a challenge to write a crossover between noir and another genre, in this case humour. Feel free to leave a comment at the magazine if you liked the story, or even if you didn't! 30 April This Life Sucks, Fiona's short dark vampire tale, has taken first place in Flash Me! Magazine's regular poll to find the most popular story in each issue. The story is still available to read, free, in Issue 23 at the Flash Me! site. 17 April Haworth Press, the original publishers of the 'Men of Mystery' anthology containing Fiona's short story Any Means Necessary, ceased trading as a fiction publisher before the book could be distributed properly. The editors, Sean Meriwether and Greg Phillips, have negotiated a new deal with Lethe Press and the book is due out later this year. Watch this space for details. 31 March Gay Flash Fiction have just release their latest issue, #13, complete with A Small Problem, a very tongue-in-cheek short about a disastrous expedition to Mars. See the Books page for more information. 13 February From The Asylum have just accepted The Boyfriend From Hell, a short short about a boyfriend with an uneartlhly reason for his antisocial habits, for their forthcoming print anthology 'Things Aren't What They Seem'. Watch this space for details on when and how the anthology will be available. 3 February Byker Books have just announced that Radgepacket - Tales from the Inner Cities Volume 2 is available to pre-order from their website. This anthology includes Fiona's short story Rock and a Hard Place about an ageing rock star pretending to be gay; and if the previous volume is anything to go by the other stories will be dark, quirky and thoroughly entertaining. To pre-order your copy go to the Byker Books website. The book will be officially launched on 2 March. 31 January This Life Sucks, a short dark tale about a disenchanted vampire, is now available to read (absolutely free) in the January 2009 issue of Flash Me! Magazine. 5 January The 'I Do' anthology has been put together in support of the Lambda Legal Fund, in aid of the fight against Proposition 8 outlawing same-sex civil partnerships in California. It includes a wealth of short stories by well-known authors such as Alex Beecroft, Erastes, Sharon Maria Bidwell, Marquesate and many, many more, as well as a 'kitchen sink' romp called Salad Days by Fiona Glass.
The book will be widely available in electronic format and a print version is due later this month. Currently you can buy your copy at All Romance E-books or Mobi. Find out more at the new 'I Do' website which has details of all the contributors and all the stories. And don't forget - all proceeds from the sale of this book will go to a very worthwhile cause. |
