FAQ
Some of the
questions Fiona gets asked by her readers on a
regular basis, and her attempts to answer them!
Q: What
exactly is homoerotica?
A:
Homoerotica, or slash fiction, is erotic fiction
based around the sexual relationship between two
men. This can be as graphic and hot, or as loving
and romantic, as the author chooses. I tend to
write at the romantic end of the spectrum - most
of my works would probably be classed as 'erotic
romance'.
Q: I've
noticed you describe some of your stuff as m/m.
What does that mean?
A: M/m is
simply a 'code' representing the two men in the
central relationship of the book or story. Other
codes would be m/f for heterosexual
relationships, or f/f for lesbian fiction.
Q: Why do
you write homoerotica?
A: I've
always been drawn to the dynamics of a
relationship between two men. Partly this is
because of my love of equality and my strong
belief that people should be able to fall in love
with whoever they choose; and partly I'm
interested in things that I'll never be able to
experience for myself. On top of this, I prefer
to write about male characters (perhaps because I
enjoy watching men so much) and have occasionally
been known to describe my heroines as 'wet'.
Q: What
stuff have you written?
A: I've
written lots of short stories, mostly in the
paranormal, sf and fantasy genres, and have
currently finished one novel. You can find a full
list of all my work on the Bibliography.
Q: And what
stuff have you had published?
A: Many of
my short stories have appeared in online
magazines such as Velvet Mafia and Forbidden Fruit; or in anthologies
from Torquere Press; or in collections.
My first novel, Roses in December, has
also been published by Torquere Press. To date,
most of my publications are in the form of
electronically-published books (e-books).
Q: Why go
for e-publishing?
A: The
world of electronic publishing is a fast-growing
one, catering to the needs of the electronic
generation who prefer the speed and convenience
of downloading their books (and music) from the
internet. There are lots of exciting
possibilities in e-publishing and I'm delighted
to have been 'in' on it almost from the
beginning.
Q: How do I
buy an e-book?
A: It's
very similar to buying music online. All you need
to do is follow the link from either the Current Works page or the
individual page for the book you want to buy,
which will take you to the relevant place in the
publisher's catalogue. After that, just follow
the instructions on the publisher's web page. You
will usually be able to pay by credit card (and
sometimes by PayPal) and your chosen book should
be available to download as soon as your payment
has cleared.
Q: How do I
read an e-book?
A: Most
e-books are available in a variety of different
file types, to suit your particular computer. The
most common of these is known as a pdf file and
can be read using Adobe Acrobat reader, which is
available to download free from the internet.
Other popular file types include lit files for
Microsoft readers and poc files for certain kinds
of hand-held computers. And many electronic
publishers are now making their books available
in html format, which means you can read them in
any internet browser.
